Bedworth Utd 0 Notts County 1
FA Youth Cup 1st Round

Wednesday 23rd Ocotber

Bedworth Utd's youth team entertained Notts County's youth team at the Oval in the FA Youth Cup First Round. The youth team were in a bouyant mood after their thrilling penalty shootout victory away at Alfreton Town in the previous round.

Youth team manager Simon Benn handed a debut to recent signing Ashley Pringle. The central defender has returned to Bedworth after a spell playing for Kidderminster Harriers' youth team. Young pacey striker Carl Farquharson was handed a start as well up front alonside Lee Moore with Tom Bates floating behind them. Recent signing midfielder Kyle Storer missed out due to his registration forms not going through before the FA Youth Cup deadline.

Notts County who fielded no fewer than five internationals in their starting line-up showed in spells their class as they hit the woodwork on five occadions and Bedworth produced some superb last ditch defending to keep Notts County's players frustrated. Adam Hancox continued his superb form as he produced several great saves and generally commanded his box well.

Bedworth played well and managed to create a few chances, cheered on by the Bedworth Utd faithful but the Notts County backline has quick to defend any shots as Kyle Rhodes' long range effort was blocked. Tom Bates and Lee Moore went close near the end but cruelly Notts County scored in the 88th minute through Willis Francis' header as the game looked set for extra time.

Youth team manager Simon Benn was understandly proud of his team who more than matched their older and more illustrious counterparts. The youth team squad are mainly aged 16 years old and with the likes of Tom Bates and Ian Wilson gaining first team recognition, the future is definitely bright !

Bedworth United Youth team manager Simon Benn has strengthened his side with the signing of Kyle Storer.

Kyle is a 15 year old defensive midfielder who impressed Simon in the recent Bedworth Nursing cup tie between Bedworth Utd reserves and Collycroft Sports which Bedworth won 3-2. Simon rates Kyle as 'a very good prospect'.

Bedworth Utd's youth team were back in action after last week's FA Youth Cup First Round defeat to Notts County with an Birmingham County Cup tie at home versus Rugby Town. Bedworth Utd youth team manager Simon Benn gave a debut to recent signing Kyle Storer replacing Tom Bates with striker Callum Dempsey getting the nod ahead of Lee Moore and James O'Hagen replacing Dayle Oddy at left wing-back.

Bedworth started brightly and dominated the first 15 minutes and went 1-0 up thanks to a superb strike from Carl Farquharson from 20 yards out. Against the run of play Rugby equalised to make it 1-1 after hesistation in the Greenbacks backline.

Then the moment of controversy, a Rugby through ball sent their striker racing towards the ball with goalkeeper Adam Hancox. Both players slid for the ball and the Rugby Town striker stayed down injured with Hancox claiming the ball but the linesman on the far side started waving his flag for an apparent offence and subsquently Hancox was sent off for deliberate handball. Quite how if he did handle the ball it can be classed as 'deliberate' is up for debate and everyone even opposing fans agreed that a yellow card was probably sufficient as there was no intent on Hancox's part to 'cheat' to stop a goalscoring opportunity.

Ian Wilson went in goal and made a superb save from the resulting free-kick as Bedworth reverted to a 3-4-2 formation with Sean Judge dropping into the backline. Carl Farquharson limped off with an injury to be replaced by Lee Moore. Then on the stroke of half-time Rugby Town scored to make it 2-1 but Bedworth even though they were down to 10 men were still looking the more threatening.

Bedworth played extremely well in second half and deservedly equalising with ten minutes left through Callum Dempsey and the game went to extra time after a full time score of 2-2.

Central Defender Ashley Pringle converted from a Paul Kelly cross to make it 3-2 as Bedworth continued to create chances but failed to convert them all. Striker Lee Moore made it 4-2 after 108 minutes as Bedworth dominated. Lewis Seymour scored a penalty after 112 minutes after James O'Hagen was fouled to make it 5-2. Rugby Town got a consolation goal to make it 5-3 but the young Greenbacks go marching on.

Youth Team manager Simon Benn said ' It must have been a great game for people to watch but we gave cheap goals away and must learn at this level that we can't afford to do that. However all credit to the boys for playing so well with ten men for such a long period of time.'
